Our shared goal: equity and access to improve literacy rates

Our shared goal is to provide each child in Hillsborough County with equitable access to books anytime, anywhere—to encourage and promote reading and increase literacy rates for all. Through this initiative, over 6,900 myON digital texts currently are available to all children from birth through 8th grade.

During the past 10 years

• Hundreds of thousands of children from birth through 8th grade have had free access to myON
• Parents have been supported through partnerships with community agencies and neighborhood schools
• Books have been accessed over 71,718,216 times
• Over 336 million minutes have been spent reading on myON
• 39% of the books children access on myON through this partnership are opened for the first time outside of school hours

Milestones

• February 2012 – Read on myON launched
• January 2017 – 25 million books accessed
• April 2019 – 50 million books accessed
• Spring 2022 – 75 million books accessed

Highlights and events

• Supported all major sports teams through Community reading challenges
• Supported the annual Black History Month Digital Read-In
• Hosted seasonal reading challenges
